The ‘Aire Valley Towpath Route’ links the 22 km length of towpath on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal between Leeds and Saltaire and is suitable for all towpath users: walkers, cyclists, anglers and mobility impaired users. It forms part of the National Cycle Network – Route 66 - so get your kicks on the Aire Valley Towpath Route!
The work to improve the surface of the towpath was carried out during the spring and summer of 2002. The route was officially opened by Leeds West Labour MP, John Battle on September 20th 2002.
The route provides a wonderful opportunity to explore part of the longest canal in Britain. It encompasses vibrant urban areas, beautiful countryside and the peace and quiet of a canalside location with interesting and historical places to visit.
The route is being extended to Skipton with the first section to Bingley due to be completed by Summer 2003 and the length to Skipton the following year. Click to see more..
